PLANT THE SEEDTM

Hands-on sustainability education for schools
Explore the natural world of soil, seeds and plants with Landscape Architect, Alannah Easton.
Understand how natural systems are fundamental to life and how we can design our environment for a sustainable future

Plant The SeedTM can provide teachers and students with the tools to learn outdoors in a living classroom.
Students collect seed, grow plants and then create habitat and biodiversity in their school.

Plant The Seed's mission is to plant trees on 25% of land in Victorian Schools to keep our schools cool and combat urban heat.

Designer - in - residence packages

Across 5 sessions, the project will cover soil science, seed collection & propagation, understanding plant properties and how they can benefit our native wildlife. We will choose a site for a wildlife garden and then, on the last session, plant an indigenous wildlife-attracting garden for the school. Enjoy the results for years to come as you watch it grow!

Various grants may be available (depending on the time of application) to assist with funding.

This package offers 10 sessions to involve the students in the design and implementation of a micro-ecosystem in the school.

The project will cover soil science, seed collection & propagation, understanding plant properties and plant identification as above. However, this extended package also offers the opportunity to dive into site analysis, design theory and how we can use plants to design a sustainable environment. The program has a central theme of climate change and what we can do about it. Students will gain an understanding of the ways that plants can reduce urban heat, increase our tree canopy, created structures for wildlife shelter and food, and sequester carbon to combat greenhouse gas emissions.
To wrap up the project, we will plant out the design the students have created so they can watch their hardwork come to life!
